Overview
SAMSEF offers multiple annual scholarships to promote and help fund students pursuing education in land surveying. Awards are decided each year by a panel of land surveyors from a neighboring state’s surveying society. All annual scholarships are distributed by July.
Important dates
- Application deadline: June 30. Applications received after June 30 will be deferred and considered in the next year’s award cycle.
- Awards announced/issued: July each year.
Regional scholarships and residency
SAMSEF administers five regional scholarships to assist degree-seeking students across the state of Georgia. When reviewing applications, preference is given to the candidate’s home region within Georgia. Applicants must be Georgia residents.
Eligibility requirements
- Intend to pursue a career in land surveying.
- Enrolled in, or planning to enroll in, a land surveying program or a related field of study at an accredited college acceptable to the trustees of SAMSEF.
- The chosen degree program must include sufficient coursework to qualify the graduate to sit for the surveyor intern (SI) exam.
- Students at any postsecondary level are eligible, including students graduating high school who will enter college as freshmen.
Application materials
Applicants should provide documentation that supports their candidacy, for example: high school transcripts, college transcripts (if applicable), descriptions or samples of related projects, personal essays, and any other pertinent supporting materials.
Selection process
Recipients are chosen annually by a committee of land surveyors affiliated with an adjacent state land surveying society. Final awards are made by July each year.
