New England Newspaper and Press Association Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Journalism Education Foundation of New England
Overview
The Journalism Education Foundation of New England (JEFNE) is accepting applications for the 2026 New England Journalism Scholarship Program. The program, managed by the New England Newspaper & Press Association (NENPA), will award scholarships of up to $2,000 to outstanding student journalists across New England and will support as many as ten talented candidates. Each year the program also presents the MacGregor Fiske Award to one student who shows exceptional promise in journalism.
Who is eligible
- Must be a resident of one of the six New England states: Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, or Vermont.
- Residency, not the location of the college, determines eligibility; applicants may attend a school outside New England.
- Open to high school seniors and undergraduate college students who plan to enroll in college in Fall 2026 and who intend to study journalism or a closely related subject. Graduate students are not eligible.
- Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.

Applicants must demonstrate a clear interest in a journalism career by submitting the following items via email:
- Cover letter
- Official or unofficial transcript
- Résumé or a short biography
- One letter of recommendation
- A portfolio composed of at least three journalism works (published or produced for class)
