Technical Scholarship — Overview and Requirements
Overview
Established in 2007, this Technical Scholarship provides a one-time award of $1,000 to students enrolled in technical programs who plan to pursue careers in the mining industry, where technical skills are in high demand.
Eligibility
- High school seniors may apply.
- At the time recipients are selected, applicants must be enrolled and in good standing in a two‑year technical or trade school program.
- Candidates must be studying a trade relevant to mining.
- Applicants must demonstrate an interest in a mining career.
Required Application Materials (incomplete applications will not be considered)
A. Three references: For each reference include name, mailing address, business and home phone numbers, employer/company name, years acquainted, and attach letters of recommendation.
B. Work history: Provide a complete employment record. For each position list employer name, address, phone number, supervisor’s name, duties performed, dates/length of service, and reason for leaving.
C. Short answers (each response must be 100 words or fewer):
1) If you could choose any job, what would it be and why?
2) Why are you pursuing your current degree?
3) What are your plans after graduation?
4) Optional: Personal statement.
D. Proof of enrollment in the two‑year technical or trade program.
How applications are handled
- The Rocky Mountain Mining Institute will make application forms available to interested schools and posts them online at www.RockyMtnMining.org. Only students who meet the eligibility requirements will be accepted for consideration.
- The Scholarship Committee will review and score submitted applications. Top applicants may be invited for interviews.
Award distribution
- The scholarship award is $1,000 and will be sent directly to the recipient’s college or technical school as a tuition credit (by federal regulation the payment cannot be mailed directly to the student).
Important Dates
- Application deadline: March 1, 2026. Applications received after this date will not be accepted.
- Interviews (if held): March 2026.
- Notification of winners: April 2026.
