Alexander Christian Foundation Scholarships
Scholarship Sponsored by Alexander Christian Foundation
Introduction
Alexander Christian Foundation, Inc., a charitable nonprofit formed in 1964, provides scholarships to help students who are members of Independent Christian Church/Church of Christ congregations in Indiana pursue Christian ministry education.
Eligibility
To be considered for an Alexander Christian Foundation undergraduate scholarship, applicants must meet all of the following:
- Be an Indiana resident.
- Be an attending member of an Independent Christian Church/Church of Christ located in Indiana.
- Intend to serve (or currently be serving) in a church-related vocation where the primary focus is preaching or disciple-making. Examples include working in a local church (minister, youth minister, music minister), serving as a missionary, or teaching as a professor at a Christian college. (Note: ACF does not fund students preparing for careers in counseling or worship technology.)
- Be enrolled, or planning to enroll, full-time (minimum 12 credit hours) at an approved Independent Christian Church/Church of Christ college.
- If currently in college, hold at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.
Application requirements and deadline
All application materials must be completed by the applicant (or an appointed representative) and submitted to the Foundation by March 1. It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure every required item arrives before the deadline; applicants may contact the office to confirm receipt or check status.
Required materials:
- An essay of 500–1,000 words addressing: “Why I desire to serve Christ in a church-related vocation.”
- Official transcript (current students should include the most recent fall semester).
- A recent photograph of the applicant.
- Completed Minister’s Evaluation Form (available online).
- Completed Elder or Youth Leader’s Evaluation Form (available online).
Selection process
- The Scholarship Selection Committee reviews applications and recommends recipients. Scholarship awards depend on the volume of qualified applications and the funds available.
- Applicants may be asked to attend an interview in Indianapolis before final decisions are made.
- Applicants will be notified of the Committee’s decision. The Foundation also intends to inform the recipient’s home church and school of any award.
Award duration and renewal
- Scholarships are awarded for one academic year only.
- Previous recipients who maintain at least a B (3.0) grade average may apply again the following year.
Circumstances that end scholarship eligibility
A scholarship may be revoked and prior recipients may be ineligible for future awards if any of the following occur:
- The recipient changes career plans and is no longer pursuing a church-related vocation.
- The recipient’s cumulative grade average falls below a B (3.0).
- The recipient transfers to an institution that is not an approved Independent Christian Church/Church of Christ college.
- The recipient ceases to be enrolled full-time.
Additional grounds for termination
- The Foundation’s Directors reserve the right to end a scholarship if a majority conclude the recipient has shown academic incompetence, immorality, or conduct unbecoming of a scholarship holder. Situations such as being placed on college probation or expelled may disqualify a recipient unless convincing evidence of significant personal change is provided.
- If a college or university loses accreditation or undertakes actions the Directors determine to be unethical, harmful, or inconsistent with the Foundation’s values, that institution may be declared ineligible. In such cases the Directors will work with affected recipients to make reasonable arrangements concerning their awards and educational options.
