Ramia Boersma Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by South Dakota Education Association
The Association may annually award up to three $750 scholarships for each academic year.
Must be submitted by February 15.
RAMIA BOERSMA SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION
The South Dakota Education Association/NEA awards scholarships to outstanding students who are planning on entering the teaching profession. The Association may annually award up to three $750 scholarships for each academic year.
Must be submitted by February 15.
HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS
Four-year scholarship
Criteria for application requires that the student must:
- Be the daughter/son or granddaughter/grandson of an active member or an SDEA-Retired member.
- Be in the top quarter of his/her class as of January of his/her graduating year.
- Be a student in a South Dakota public education institution.
- Be accepted and/or enrolled in a South Dakota college or university.
The following attachments must be included with the application form:
- A copy of high school transcript. The transcript must indicate the name of the school.
- A listing of academic and extra-curricular activities.
- Letters of recommendation from at least two teachers and one administrator.
- A 300-500 word essay on the strengths and skills the applicant will bring to the field of education.
COLLEGE SOPHOMORES
Two-year scholarship
Criteria for application requires that the student must:
- Be completing the sophomore year of college and enrolled in a teacher prep program.
- Be the daughter/son or granddaughter/grandson of an active member or an SDEA-Retired member.
- Be a full-time student.
- Have at least a 3.0 grade point average.
- Maintain membership in SDEA/NEA Student Program.
The following attachments must be included with the application form:
- A copy of the applicant's college transcript. The transcript must indicate the name of the college.
- A listing of academic and extracurricular activities.
- Letters of recommendation from at least three instructors.
- A 300-500 word essay on the strengths and skills the applicant will bring to the field of education.
A recipient of the scholarship will have the award extended for another academic year provided that he or she has:
- Been a full-time student in a teacher preparation program in a South Dakota college or university.
- Maintained at least a 3.0 grade point average.
- Maintained membership in South Dakota/NEA Student Program
