E Lanier Finch Scholarship
Scholarship Sponsored by Georgia Association of Broadcasters
The Georgia Association of Broadcasters wanted to recognize the late Lanny Finch, our President Emeritus for his outstanding leadership, dedication and numerous contributions to the continued success of this association. Therefore, our scholarship program, benefiting both member stations and students, was reestablished in 2005. The association honored Lanny by creating The GAB E. Lanier (Lanny) Finch Scholarship Foundation.
The scholarships presented by the GAB Scholarship Foundation are in the amount of $1,500 each. Up to five scholarships may be awarded each year. Applicants must be registered as a full time student at a fully accredited college or university, a rising junior or senior studying for a degree in some aspect of the broadcasting industry and a bona fide resident of the state of Georgia.
Scholarship Purpose
The scholarships provides financial assistance to deserving students who will carry on the tradition of excellence in Georgia's broadcasting industry. The purpose of the scholarship fund is multi-faceted:
A) To encourage a higher standard of professionalism in the broadcasting industry.
B) To foster a stronger relationship between higher education and the profession.
C) To promote a greater understanding of journalistic ethics and societal responsibility of broadcasters.
D) To support commitment and potential in promising future broadcasters.
Scholarship Selection Criteria
GAB participating member stations will select the winning candidates. No one field within the broadcasting industry will receive preferential consideration. Allowances will be made for varying levels of experience. Judges will consider scholastic records, extracurricular activities, community involvement and leadership potential. There will be no discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex or age.
