- Payment is made in the Fall and allocated equally between the Fall and Spring semesters.
- Funds may be applied to tuition, fees, books, and other approved educational expenses.
Selection process
A Kathleen McElligott Hall Scholarship selection committee reviews applications and names the recipient. The committee includes two family members, an academic coordinator from Rochester Institute of Technology, and three members of the greater Rochester community. The committee notifies the Community Foundation of its decision.
Notification and disbursement
- Recipients are notified by email in the Spring with instructions on how to claim the award.
- The scholarship payment is mailed to the recipient’s school for deposit to the student account in a single lump sum in the Fall and then split between Fall and Spring semesters once required documentation is provided.
Required documentation and deadlines for payment

Enrollment must be at an accredited two- or four-year college or an accredited vocational/technical school.
- To release subsequent payments (for renewals): upload the requested documents (including an unofficial transcript, current class schedule, and tuition bill) to the Community Foundation’s Scholarship Portal between July 1 and August 15 to confirm ongoing enrollment in a nursing program and satisfactory academic standing.
